Why India...
The Indian automobile industry is expected to achieve mass motorisation status by 2014. The liberalisation policy and various tax concessions offered by the Government of India in recent years has had a remarkable impact on the Indian automobile industry, which is currently growing at a pace of around 18 per cent per annum. India has become a hot destination for global auto players.
With the growth of the transport system, India's automotive industry is also expanding rapidly and occupies an important place in the national economy.
Motorcycles contribute 80 per cent of the segment size.
Tata Motors dominates with a 60 per cent share of the Indian commercial vehicle market.
Two-thirds of auto component production is consumed directly by OEMs.
India is the fifth-largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the world.
OEMs are focusing on India as a market from which they can source products and components at a significantly lower cost than their domestic markets.
Passenger vehicle exports have increased fivefold and two-wheeler exports have doubled. Exports of auto components have grown by 25 per cent. The cost of component manufacture is between 30 per cent and 40 per cent less than in the West.
